At Giving Through Jewelry, 10% of all sales are donated to a charity of the buyers choice. We realize that there are a lot of charities to choose from so we would like to highlight some of our favorites. This month’s featured charity is Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy . Check out our FACEBOOK page at the beginning of each month to see how much was donated.
Who They Are
Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Philadelphia, PA dedicated to providing therapeutic horseback riding programs and equine-assisted activities and therapies for children and adults with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities. Pegasus is a PATH International (Professional Association for Therapeutic Horsemanship) Premier Accredited Center and a member of the PA Council on Therapeutic Horsemanship.
As the city’s only full-time therapeutic riding program, Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy seeks to improve the quality of life for our program participants and their families. Led by PATH-certified instructors, we provide over 100 lessons per week to people with disabilities, helping riders improve muscle strength, flexibility, motor skills, communication, mental focus, and self-esteem. We also feature an autism program, a 6-week summer program, a Senior Saddles program for riders ages 55 and older, and an unmounted equine facilitated learning program.
Mission
Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy, Inc. focusses on partnering with our equine staff to promote independence while targeting physical and emotional well-being for individuals with disabilities, diagnoses, and at risk populations. At Pegasus TRA we provide therapeutic activities, mounted and unmounted, emphasizing ability and maintaining a respectful and trusting environment for our participants, volunteers, staff, and equines.
How You Can Help?
Volunteer
Volunteers are at the heart of our operation. It’s plain and simple: without volunteers, our programs would not exist. Volunteers come from all walks of life and range from age 14 to age 85. What almost all have in common is that they find they receive as much as they give. Working with the riders and the horses is a labor of love that provides an exciting and fulfilling challenge.
If you’ve never worked around horses before, that’s no problem! They teach you everything you need to know. They also offer a Work-to-Ride program for volunteers with riding experience.

Donate
Charitable donations are tremendously important to the ability to serve disabled riders and their families. They keep ther lesson fees affordable, subsidizing each rider and offering financial aid to families and individuals who demonstrate the need for assistance. As they strive to meet the growing demand for therapeutic riding services and expand their outreach into the community, they depend on charitable gifts of all sizes.
They welcome donations toward general operating costs (helping keep the lights on and the horses fed!), as well as donations designated for specific purposes, such as rider scholarships, horse sponsorship, or barn equipment.
