Featured Charity: NAACP

Giving Through Jewelry believes in giving back and that’s why 10% of all sales are donated to a charity of the buyer’s choice. There are so many charities to choose from so we like to highlight one organization every month. This month we’re featuring the nonprofit organization, DonorsChoose.

Mission: To make it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that provides a platform for teachers to request classroom supplies and other resources for their students. Founded in 2000 by a public school teacher in the Bronx, New York, DonorsChoose has helped fund over 1.9 million classroom projects, benefiting over 35 million students in public schools across the United States.

The way DonorsChoose works is that teachers post specific requests for supplies or other resources they need for their classrooms, such as books, art supplies, technology, field trips, or musical instruments. Donors can then browse these requests on the organization’s website and choose to fund the projects they’re most interested in supporting. DonorsChoose also provides transparency by sending photos and thank-you notes from the teachers and students who benefit from the funded projects.

DonorsChoose has received support from a variety of sources, including corporations, foundations, and individual donors. The organization has a four-star rating from Charity Navigator and has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most innovative companies in the world.

Overall, DonorsChoose provides a valuable resource for public school teachers who often struggle to provide adequate resources for their students. By connecting these teachers with generous donors who want to make a difference, the organization is helping to improve educational opportunities for children across the country.
